Wirtanen (Axys) did a fantastic job on our project. As with all construction projects, challenges were presented throughout the project. Grant and his team did an excellent job mitigating the risks, communicating to me and my staff, and providing excellent solutions and alternatives in a timely manner. During the warranty period there have been very minor items that have arisen and Axys has responded quickly to resolve the issues identified.
The workers and subcontractors were very knowledgeable about their field, professional, efficient and considerate of the work site. In addition, the crews were careful and safe during the execution of the project. The only item i would note as a minor deficiency was the mess that expended beyond the boundaries of the job site due to high winds. I would have preferred if the surrounding area had been cleaned up more often.
I will be using Axys for future projects and would highly recommend them.

At the conclusion of our projects I have my project staff include a subcontract performance review and Wirtanen’s performance exemplified above average marks on all categories. We use the subcontractor performance summaries to aid in the choosing of future subcontractors on projects we bid, thus it is critical for the team to itemize strengths and weaknesses that may prove valuable in evaluating future subcontractors.
Wirtanen’s team on our Fort Yukon Airport Project did an impressive job of meeting the contract demands. We were thoroughly impressed with the planning and execution of Steven and Grant. They completed their portion of the work nearly 4 weeks ahead of schedule and we received comments from the owner that they had never seen a building contractor perform so well on a SREB before.
Critical to all remote Alaskan work is a sound understanding of the phases and tasks at hand to complete a project. Furthermore, a contractor must be able to plan, communicate, and execute in order to build a prosperous and viable business in this market. Sorry for the late reply, trying to tie up a few end of year things here.
I also appreciate the efforts on the Circle Clinic project. It certainly posed a few unique challenges, but your team’s hard work and aggressiveness definitely helped smooth any potential show stopping issues.
It sounds like your company is growing and expanding, great for you guys! I will certainly contact you should any further work of this type come up.
As far as criticism, I really have very little. The only thing that would have been better would have been daily communication, but our hands were certainly tied because of the limited resources in Circle itself. Other than that, you provided us a quality end product, ahead of schedule and on budget, which are the main issues for a project manager like myself.
